Partnering With Artists for the AI Action Summit in Paris


We believe AI is the modern technology with the most potential to foster creativity, innovation and free expression across the globe. In celebration of this potential, we participated in the AI Summit Cultural Weekend organized by the Ministry of Culture with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France.

We partnered with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF), Fisheye Immersive, Convergence and Institut Montaigne to commission and present two open source AI-generated art installations by innovative artists, Ruben Fro and Benjamin Bardou. Their works demonstrate the capability of open source AI as a new medium and creative tool. 

“Deep Diving” by Ruben Fro

Ruben Fro, the Tokyo-based VFX artist, co-directed an audiovisual piece with immersive art director at Fisheye Mehdi Mejri titled “Deep Diving,” which was built on Meta’s open source models, including SAM 2. The piece visualizes the workings of the BnF’s unique book and document delivery system. The film was projected onto one of the library towers, displayed inside the BnF and shown on an LED screen outside of the library. “Deep Diving” will be on display for one week in celebration of the AI Action Summit.

Today, we’re also excited to share that SAM (Segment Anything Model) 2.1 is now available on Amazon SageMaker JumpStart, making it easier than ever to deploy SAM 2.1 and integrate it into new applications and workflows to segment videos. Amazon SageMaker has been an important partner as we’ve trained our SAM models, and we’re excited to continue working with them to bring the capabilities of SAM 2.1 to even more people.

AI-Generated Memories by Benjamin Bardou

Benjamin Bardou, a French visual artist and filmmaker, created AI-generated “memories” of notable paintings and oil pastels by Edgar Degas, artworks that reflect on the past and future of art history. These pieces premiered at NEO 612, an immersive showroom event – half technology and half art – hosted by Convergence and the Institut Montaigne. It will be presented at the Musée des Arts et Métiers
