Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, appeared on the WTF podcast and said that YouTube is not social media but a stage where anyone can become a creator and make money from their influence.
Hosted by Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha, the WTF podcast is a great success because of the exclusive guests and Kamath’s curiosity to learn anything and everything.
The podcast began with the format of multiple guests talking about a topic, and now there’s a new format called ‘People by WTF’ where solo guests discuss about their life, professional career, and advice to youngsters.
Kamath has done solo podcasts under ‘People by WTF’ with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Bill Gates, actor Ranbir Kapoor, and many more amazing guests.
The podcast with YouTube CEO Neal Mohan is an episode of the solo format, where they talk about the future of the platform to the masks we wear, and what happens when we take them off.
When asked to define what YouTube is today, Mohan said, “We’re not social media, and our job is to build the stage. And I want that to be the best possible stage in the world.”
Kamath also asked about the time when Neal Mohan was offered $100 million by Google to stay with the company, and reject Twitter’s offer of the chief product role.
Here’s a teaser of the podcast, as the full episode will be coming soon on Nikhil Kamath’s YouTube channel.
