Making it Easier to Create Videos on Facebook

Every day, people use Facebook to share content that helps them connect with friends, capture  memories and showcase their interests. Now, we’re making it easier to share videos on Facebook by simplifying how you create and post videos. In the coming months, all videos on Facebook will be shared as reels, eliminating the need to choose between uploading a video or reel. Reels on Facebook will also not have any length or format restrictions.

Previously, you’d upload a video to Feed or post a reel using different creative flows and tools for each format. Now, we’re bringing these experiences together with a simplified publishing flow that gives you access to even more creative tools. We’ll also give you control over your audience setting of who sees your reels.

Facebook remains a home for all types of video – short, long, and Live. We will gradually roll out these changes globally to profiles and Pages over the coming months to help you create, share and discover reels more easily on Facebook.

Choose Your Audience

We’re unifying privacy settings across Feed posts and reels as part of this change. Your default setting will now be the same for Feed and Reels publishing formats on Facebook. When you begin posting reels after this change, you’ll be prompted to confirm your audience setting or select a new one if your Feed posts and reels have different settings.

You’re still in control of who sees your reels and will continue to have access to the same audience settings and controls as before, so you can share them with just your friends or a select group of people if you like. You can also choose to publish a reel as public for added reach to help you grow your views and audience.

Visit the Help Center to learn how to view and change your audience settings at any time.

Reintroducing the Reels Tab

Last year, we announced an updated fullscreen video player and Video Tab on Facebook, with a consistent design for all video lengths. As a result of today’s update, we’re also renaming the Video tab to Reels tab. We still value a variety of topics and lengths on Facebook, and this update won’t change what videos we recommend to you, which are personalized based on your interests. You’ll continue to see reels of all lengths relevant to your interests and from a growing community of creators on Facebook.

Sharing the Content You Love With Your Audience

Video content you’ve already shared isn’t going anywhere – it will remain on your profile or Page for your audience to enjoy, and creators will be eligible for distribution. However, every new video you create and post moving forward will be a reel.
