Vantara is a large and modern wildlife rescue, Jamnager.

Vantara, derived from the Sanskrit words “Van” (forest) and “Tara” (star), symbolizes a celestial haven for wildlife and nature. This innovative initiative, spearheaded by Anant Ambani, is a groundbreaking effort to create a world-class conservation and rehabilitation center for endangered species. Situated within the lush, expansive grounds of the Reliance Greens complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, Vantara is not just a sanctuary but a visionary project that blends cutting-edge technology, veterinary science, and compassionate care to redefine wildlife conservation. Vantara officially opened its gates on February 26, 2024, but it is not yet open to the public. Anant Ambani has stated that he will make the facility open to visitors shortly, turning it into a state-of-the-art conservation programme that not only houses animals but also informs the public on wildlife conservation.

Area and Project Details

  • Area: Vantara covers an area of 3,000 acres and will be the world’s largest zoo and rehabilitation centre.
  • Project Cost: Although no specific information on the cost of the project is available in the public domain, the project is supported by Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation, which suggests heavy investment in infrastructure and operations.
  • Animal Population: More than 2,000 animals from 43 species, such as elephants, leopards, lions, tigers, and reptiles, have been rescued and housed at Vantara.

What Makes Vantara Unique?

Holistic Approach to Conservation: Vantara goes beyond traditional wildlife sanctuaries by integrating rescue, rehabilitation, breeding, and lifelong care for animals. It focuses on creating a sustainable ecosystem where animals can thrive in environments that mimic their natural habitats. The initiative also emphasizes the importance of education and awareness, aiming to inspire future generations to protect biodiversity.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The sanctuary boasts world-class infrastructure, including advanced veterinary hospitals, diagnostic centers, and specialized care units. These facilities are equipped with the latest medical technologies, enabling the team to provide top-notch healthcare to injured, abused, or endangered animals. The hospital even includes intensive care units (ICUs) and surgical theaters tailored for wildlife.

  • Dedicated Elephant Facilities: A 600-acre property has been created as a natural setting for elephants with a huge elephant jacuzzi to treat arthritis and a dedicated Elephant Hospital with hyperbaric oxygen chambers and laser machines.
  • State-of-the-Art Healthcare: A 1 lakh sq ft hospital and medical research centre with sophisticated facilities such as MRI, X-ray, ICU, CT scan, and video conferencing for surgeries.
  • Scientifically Planned Enclosures: Hydrotherapy pools and several water bodies are included in the carefully designed animal enclosures.
  • Research and Academic Centres: Partnerships with world-renowned wildlife specialists and organizations form a core part of Vantara’s purpose.

Species-Specific Habitats

Vantara jamnagar is designed to cater to the unique needs of each species. From sprawling grasslands for herbivores to dense forests for big cats, every habitat is meticulously planned to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of the animals. The sanctuary also features climate-controlled enclosures for species that require specific environmental conditions.

Vantara’s vision is to join hands with the Zoo Authority of India in developing animal care infrastructure in Indian zoos. Challenged by the philosophy of “jeev seva” (animal care), Anant Ambani visualizes Vantara as a mission to save critically endangered species and restore habitats that are crucial. Vantara is a breakthrough in wildlife conservation, providing a complete solution to animal rescue and rehabilitation. With its doors soon to be open to the public, it promises to be not only a zoo but an integrated educational and conservation centre.
